Roger Brown’s Restaurant and Sports Bar
Portsmouth, VA (circa 1910)
McPherson Design Group led the design team in renovating the historic Woolworth Building in downtown Portsmouth into a restaurant, bar, and banquet facility for the Hall of Fame football player Roger Brown. Although the building is 32,000 square feet and has two stories, this project only involved a complete renovation of the first floor, with the second floor remaining available for future renovation. Roger has put the first floor to good use, however, by adding one of the largest bars in the Tidewater area, three “theater dining” areas (each with 67” screens), a broadcast booth and banquet areas for special events, speakers at each table, and plenty of sports paraphernalia. Roger Brown’s fit in nicely with the new sports atmosphere that was created in downtown Portsmouth with the opening of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on the adjacent block.
