Muscarelle Museum of Art, College of William & Mary
Williamsburg, Virginia
McPherson Design Group assisted in the design of the expansion of The Muscarelle Museum of Art, which nearly doubled its original size. The expansion included a graphic arts study room downstairs and three spacious galleries on the second floor. The Muscarelle Museum of Art originally opened in 1983 and is located on the campus of The College of William & Mary. It is a culturally rich art institution, serving as a dynamic resource for our community, a working laboratory for the College, and a platform for visiting exhibitions and the museum’s own collection. The Muscarelle Museum of Art was accredited by the American Association of Museums in 1988 and received subsequent accreditation in 2000. The Museum was the first university/college museum of art in the Commonwealth of Virginia to be accredited by the AAM. This distinction is held by fewer than five percent of museums in the U.S.
