Third Baptist Church
Portsmouth, Virginia (circa 1885)
The Third Baptist Church of Portsmouth was erected in 1885 by a group of members from the Ebenezer Baptist Church, which was established about twenty years earlier. McPherson Design Group completed field investigation, a facility condition report, and structural engineering design services for the structure. The structural investigation revealed that the Church had termite and water damage that caused the steeples on the Church to deteriorate. Due to the subframing problems, the existing solid brick exterior walls were cracking in need of repair. Contract documents were prepared for the total redesign of the steeples. Construction Administration management services were provided for the entire project.
